The movie tells the story from Tonya’s perspective so you see a lot of her childhood and how she become the person she is. She always had challenges fitting into the ice skating world as she was considered a white trash girl where they wanted America’s princess for their champion. But when she was the first female to nail the triple axel and therefore technically the best they couldn’t ignore her any longer. So she was at the top of her game, when the ‘incident’ occurred and everything came crashing down.

The ‘incident’ was in 1994 and although Nancy recovered from her injury to win silver in the olympics and recently was on Dancing with the Stars. Tonya never skated professionally again. She instead trying wrestling, boxing and even car racing. Knowing that Tonya had provided comment on the movie, going into it I suspected it wouldn’t be too rough on her. But what I didn’t expect is that it was funny, like border line taking the piss. Basically overall an entertaining watch. Plus as it is based on a true story, albeit possibly biased, it teaches you history.
