Melbourne is one of my favourite cities to visit. It is perfect for a long weekend, just a short flight from NZ and with lots to see and do. I recently had an amazing long weekend there, full of food, sightseeing and a bit of tennis.

Australian Open

Primarily we were there to head to the tennis, we had tickets to the Round 4. The Australian open is held in January every year in Melbourne and something I had always wanted to attend. We had tickets to the Saturday night session at Rod Laver Arena. We didn’t know when we bought the tickets who we would see, but we were lucky enough to see Federer vs Gasquet and Kerber vs Sharapova. I was stoked to see Federer as he is a tennis legend!

The set up for the tennis is so good, lots of atmosphere, food and drink stands in the grounds. Plus screens if you want a grounds pass. But if you have tickets to one of the Arenas the atmosphere is awesome!

Lanes - Melbourne

We were lucky enough to have a friend who lives there and is a massive foodie. So he chose all our restaurants over the weekend and never failed. The main thing I learnt was that in Melbourne if there isn’t a queue or its at least bustling you don’t want to eat there. It is common to queue or go on a waitlist for restaurants, sometimes for up to 2 hours! Our breakfast venues –

Hardware Societe a cute french themed cafe based in the city.

Industry Beans a funky cafe based in Fitzroy

Lune Croissanterie

Lune Croissanterie – I think my favourite of the trip, they only sell Croissants, variations of croissants (including the Cruffin) and coffee, based in Fitzroy.

Manchester Press – A bagel based restaurant based in the city.

Our dinner/lunch venues –

Movida – An amazing tapas restaurant in the city

On Nom Kitchen - Melbourne

Om Nom Kitchen – At the Adelphi Hotel in the city we went there for an amazing High tea.

Longrain – South East Asian restaurant in the city

Betty’s Burgers – I love a good burger and this place does great burgers, based in the city.

Laneways - Melbourne

In between meals we wandered the lanes in the CBD, went to a street art exhibition and checked out the beach houses on Brighton beach.

If you keep an eye out you can often get good specials on flights, so get booking!
