Turtles all the way down – John Green

Turtles All The Way Down - John Green

Turtles All The Way Down is the latest book by John Green. John Green who wrote The Fault in our Stars (check out my review) is a fantastic YA author. In Turtles All The Way Down we meet Aza who suffers from Mental Health, in particular Anxiety. Because of her anxiety she sometimes struggles to relate to others, but she does have her ever fearless bestie Daisy. When a local billionaire goes missing Daisy wants the $100k reward so she convinces Aza to use a long ago connection with the son of the billionaire Davis so they can investigate. Aza reluctantly agreed but in Davis found more than she ever expected, but as things develop her anxiety reaches an all time high.

Turtles All The Way Down is a Hindu cosmology reference and mentioned in a story in Stephen Hawkings book ‘A brief History of Time’, this story is quoted in the book. I really like how John Green approaches the issue of mental health in this book, he doesn’t soften it despite the YA audience. This is very consistent with John Green, as in The Fault in our Stars, he didn’t go for an obvious happy ending to a cancer story. As a result he creates very interesting characters with depth, in particular Davis, Daisy and Aza.
